The Emergency Medicine Department at JNU Hospital’s main objective is to provide care to patients who are suffering from illnesses or injuries that require immediate medical attention.

Through the ACLS, BLS and ATLS Certified doctors and supporting staff who specialize in managing medical emergencies, the department is equipped for initiating resuscitation, stabilization, and performing the initial investigations and interventions necessary to diagnose and treat illnesses or injuries in the acute phase.

Well-equipped advanced life support ambulances with essential life-support systems are provided by the hospital. This facility at the best trauma care facility hospital is operational 24x7 and is managed by experienced doctors and nurses. Well-defined protocols and international standards are followed by the hospital to provide the best medical care to the patients in case of emergencies.

What we treat

At Division of Emergency Medicine of JNU, we invest our efforts, time, and expertise to detect and treat various types of Ailments.

Shock is a critical condition brought on by the sudden drop in blood flow through the body. Shock may result from trauma, heatstroke, blood loss, an allergic reaction, severe infection, poisoning, severe burns or other causes. When a person is in shock, his or her organs aren't getting enough blood or oxygen. If untreated, this can lead to permanent organ damage or even death.

Symptoms

  • Cool, clammy skin
  • Pale or ashen skin
  • Bluish tinge to lips or fingernails (or gray in the case of dark complexions)
  • Rapid pulse
  • Rapid breathing
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Enlarged pupils
  • Weakness or fatigue
  • Dizziness or fainting
  • Changes in mental status or behavior, such as anxiousness or agitation

A heart attack (myocardial infarction or MI) is a serious medical emergency in which the supply of blood to the heart is suddenly blocked, usually by a blood clot. A heart attack is a medical emergency. A lack of blood to the heart may seriously damage the heart muscle and can be life threatening.

Symptoms

  • Chest pain – the chest can feel like it's being pressed or squeezed by a heavy object, and pain can radiate from the chest to the jaw, neck, arms and back
  • Shortness of breath
  • Feeling weak or lightheaded, or both
  • An overwhelming feeling of anxiety

Poisoning is injury or death due to swallowing, inhaling, touching or injecting various drugs, chemicals, venoms or gases. Many substances such as drugs and carbon monoxide are poisonous only in higher concentrations or dosages. And others such as cleaners are dangerous only if ingested. Children are particularly sensitive to even small amounts of certain drugs and chemicals.

Symptoms - Poisoning signs and symptoms can mimic other conditions, such as seizure, alcohol intoxication, stroke and insulin reaction. Signs and symptoms of poisoning may include:

  • Burns or redness around the mouth and lips
  • Breath that smells like chemicals, such as gasoline or paint thinner
  • Vomiting
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Drowsiness
  • Confusion or other altered mental status
