Bronchiolitis

The most common acute lower respiratory tract infection of infants, usually occurring in winter /spring. Age group- age 1- 6 months, up to 2 year age of children

Symptoms

  • Respiratory distress
  • Cough
  • Low-grade fever

Complications

  • Respiratory failure
  • Secondary bacterial infection

Causes & Prevention Viral infections (most common- RSV)

Risk Factors Prematurity, Bronchopulmonary dysplasia

Diagnosis: Clinical diagnosis, x-ray chest

Treatment Humidified oxygen, fluid management, supportive management
