New Advancements in Infertility Treatments

Infertility is a major concern all around the world. There are many new research studies taking place in the field of science that helps in eradicating infertility problems. The technological advancement in the field of science assists in getting the solution for almost all health issues.

According to World Health Organization Infertility can be manifested in women as either:

  • The inability of the women to become pregnant
  • The inability of women to maintain pregnancy for a full term
  • An inability to carry the pregnancy to live birth.

Infertility is mainly due to different gynaecological disorders like ovulation disorder, fallopian tube damage, hormonal problems, cervical issues and polycystic ovary syndrome. There are many other health issues that can also lead to infertility.

Technological Advancements Assisting Infertility Treatments: Technological advancements have proven to be a real blessing dealing with infertility issues.

The most popular new medical technologies that help in infertility treatments are:

  • Cost-effective IVF: In vitro fertilization is the most common reproductive technology used by people globally. In this method, the fertilization takes place outside the woman’s body. In this technique, the eggs are removed surgically from women and fertilized in the laboratory using a sperm sample. After fertilization, the egg is transferred to the mother’s womb through a surgical procedure.
  • IUI-Intrauterine insemination: Intrauterine insemination is also a common technique used by most infertility patients. In this technique, the sperm is placed inside the uterus that will facilitate fertilization. More sperm is placed in the uterus to increase the chances of fertilization.  There are many IUI centres in Hyderabad that perform this treatment. IUI treatment can be done at reasonable rates and under a successful doctor’s supervision.
  • Creating Sperm in Lab: Recent research in China has shown that sperm can be created in Petri dishes in the laboratory. The sperm cells created in labs lack tails and thus needs to be injected into the body. The research is done in mice and has been successful as they were able to fertilize and generate offspring.
  • Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI): Some patients may have infertility related to male and/or fertilization factors- the sperm may need assistance penetrating the egg for normal fertilization to occur.
  • Freezing of eggs and sperm: The freezing of eggs and sperms started way back in 2014. Young men and women can freeze their eggs and sperm for later use. Freezing of eggs and sperm can lower the chances of infertility in most couples.
  • Creating three-parent embryos: Creating three-parent embryos is a new technique of fertilizing the egg of two women in a single sperm. In this technique, part of the eggs from two women is taken and fertilized in a man’s sperm.
  • Womb Transplantation: Uterus transplantation surgery has become a reality now. Uterus transplantation surgeries are generally successful and most of the patients are able to carry out pregnancy in the donated womb.
