5 Pragmatic Ideas to Promote Health and Wellbeing among Children

A child is always prone to different types of health problems such as flu, cough, cold, and a large number of seasonal ailments. All these health problems are very closely associated with the immune system of children. The stronger the immune system they have, the lesser they fall ill. When children fall ill, it becomes very difficult for parents to manage the things around them because children are immature by nature and they do what they like regardless of the health concerns they might fall prey to. Hence, it is necessary to monitor the health of your children so that you can avoid frequently visiting the best pediatric hospital in Jaipur.

This blog discusses some of the best tips through which you not only take better care of your children but also help them strengthen their immune system.

1. Never let your children stay away from nutritious food

As a caring and concerned parent, it is your primary duty to decide what your children should eat, and not them. Generally, it is observed that most parents allow their children to eat whatever they want and completely surrender to their wishes. You must be in the driving seat when it comes to deciding upon breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Educate your children about the negative sides of cookies and junk foods and decide your own menu for them. You can allow them to eat their favorite fast food only once or a maximum of twice a month. Never allow them to stay away from nutritious food items.

2. Explain the importance of breakfast to your children

A healthy breakfast is a key to the good health of your children. But unfortunately, most children are very neglectful about breakfast and their parents also let things go as they are. Always encourage your children to have a timely breakfast because, after a good night’s sleep, they need nutritious food not only to stay active and satiated but also to concentrate at school. You will see a good effect on the school performance of your children because they will stay energetic till lunch in school. A bowl full of cereal with milk is considered to be a great breakfast option for children.

3. Make them understand the importance of washing hands

The COVID-19 Pandemic over the past 2 years has made us rethink our approach toward hand washing. It is a scientifically proven fact that people who wash their hands at regular intervals, particularly before having any meal or snacks fall ill lesser than those who neglect hand washing. You will be surprised to know that the fastest way for your children to fall prey to different illnesses is through eating without hand washing. It happens because when your children touch something, play any game (both indoor and outdoor), or get involved in any of the playful activities even inside the house, the germs get shipped through all these activities via the hands to mouth. Therefore, you must instill the habit of hand washing in them as effectively as you can.

4. Exercise is the key to maintaining good health

Physical activities or exercise is the key to good health, be it kids or adults. Unfortunately, over the past 20 years, the lack of physical activities has emerged as one of the serious health threats for children. Today, you can see a large number of children are suffering from type-1 and type-2 diabetes which are still incurable diseases and spoiling the lives of millions of children not only in India but also across the globe. Obesity is the mother of all diseases among children, and as an aware and concerned parent, you need to be extra careful about the physical activities of your children.

Here are some quick tips for your children to stay involved in physical activities:

• Fix the timings for your children for watching TV
• Make sure the school they are studying in is extra particular about the physical exercise of children
• If your children are below 7, then always be with them while they play outside of the house and watch them doing what they like
• Develop the habit of going on everyday morning walks as it will act as a great health booster for them
• Don’t force them always to stick to books rather make them understand that studying has nothing to do with the length or duration of sessions, it is all about the concentration
• As far as exercise or physical activities are concerned, as a parent, you also need to make some sacrifices by being a role model for them as a fitness freak. It is imperative because children always follow what they see happening practically in front of them.

5. Teach your children not to share their lunch with fellow students

Doctors are of the view that sharing lunch is one of the most common practices among children through which germs are transferred. And, there are strong pieces of evidence to support that claim. You might have noticed that during lockdowns during the COVID-19 times, the rate of children’s general illnesses drastically came down because they were not coming into contact with anybody, particularly their fellow students at school. It was because they were confined to their homes in safer and more secure environments with no contact and transfer of germs.

Anyway, when the schools are open now, children often share their lunch with their classmates and invite problems. Apart from this, you should also discuss this matter with the school authorities so that they can also discourage the children to do the same.
